About the NID DAT M.Des mock tests
For 2027 admissions, NID's M.Des Prelims is a single common paper for every discipline. Our M.Des mock tests cover what it tests — design principles, critical reasoning, materials and processes, design awareness — plus subjective writing and visualisation tasks.

NID DAT M.Des exam pattern our mocks follow
| Part | Section | Format | Questions | Marking |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One paper · 3 hours | Objective questions | Multiple choice | 40 | 1, 2 or 3 marks (60 in all), no negative |
| Subjective | Writing and drawing | 3 | 40 |
NID hasn't published the 2027 marks split; our mock uses a 100-mark paper based on NID's official samples. NID Ahmedabad shortlists about 4.5× the seats per discipline for the Mains.
What every mock includes
- 40 objective questions: design principles, reasoning, materials and processes, design awareness
- 3 subjective questions: writing, visualising information and ideation
- Upload photos of your subjective answers for mentor marking
How to use NID DAT mocks well
- Read reasoning questions twice: many hinge on one word like 'must', 'most' or 'assumption'.
- Revise Gestalt principles, colour theory, typography and common manufacturing processes — they come up across disciplines.
- For subjective questions, show your thinking: a clear structure and annotated sketches score better than polish.
NID DAT mock test: questions
Is the NID M.Des Prelims different for each discipline?
For 2027 admissions, NID's handbook says the Prelims is a single common paper for all M.Des disciplines. Discipline-specific skills are tested in the Mains.
Is there negative marking in NID DAT M.Des?
NID's last published M.Des paper cover said 'No Negative Marking', and our mocks have none. Check your admit card for the year's instructions.
What happens after the M.Des Prelims?
Shortlisted candidates take the Mains: at NID Ahmedabad, a studio test and an interview with portfolio review.
Is Mock Test 1 really free?
Yes. Fill in a short form and Mock 1 of any series opens straight away, timed and marked like the paid tests. Objective questions are marked instantly, and a TDH mentor reviews up to 2 of your drawing answers. In the full series, every drawing is marked.
Can I get personal guidance on my mock tests?
Yes. Connect with our counsellors to book a one-on-one session with a TDH mentor, for example to go through your answers, your drawings and your plan for the next few weeks. Mentor sessions are paid and booked separately from the mock test series.
What do I get in the full series?
10 full-length mock tests on the latest pattern of your exam, instant scores with section-wise and topic-wise reports, explanations for every objective question, and your drawing answers marked by a TDH mentor with written feedback. ₹799 at launch (MRP ₹999).
How do the drawing questions work online?
Just like the real exam, you draw on paper during the test. When time is up you get 20 extra minutes to photograph your sheets and upload them. A TDH mentor marks them against the criteria in the question and emails you the marks and feedback.
What if my internet drops or the page closes?
Your answers save automatically every few seconds, and the timer runs on our server. Reopen the test on any device and you'll continue where you left off, with the time that's left.
Can I take the tests on a phone?
Yes, the test screen works on phones, but a laptop or tablet is closer to the real computer-based exams. Keep your phone handy to photograph drawing answers.
When are new tests released?
New mocks are added through the season, each one checked by our mentors before release. Your series page shows which tests are open and which are coming next.
How do I open my tests on another device?
Use 'Sign in' on the mock tests page with the email you used to pay. We'll email you a link that signs you in on that device.
