NID DAT B.Des exam pattern our mocks follow
| Part | Section | Format | Questions | Marking |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One paper · 3 hours | Objective questions | Multiple choice | About 20 | 1 or 2 marks each (25 in all), no negative |
| Drawing, ideation and writing | On paper | 4–5 with sub-parts | About 75 |
NID uses the Prelims to shortlist candidates (about 2.5× the seats) for the Mains: a studio test and an in-person interaction. Splits are from NID's 2024–25 official sample papers and may change.
What every mock includes
- About 20 objective questions (1 and 2 marks): visual reasoning, general awareness, signs and symbols, crafts and colour
- 4 drawing and ideation questions worth 75 marks
- Draw on paper during the test and upload photos for mentor marking
How to use NID DAT mocks well
- There's no negative marking in the objective section, so answer every question — but give it no more than about 30 minutes.
- Drawing questions reward more than one good idea: sketch several distinct ideas quickly before refining one.
- Label your drawings with short notes: examiners look for how clearly you communicate the idea, not just how well you draw.
NID DAT mock test: questions
Is there negative marking in NID DAT Prelims?
NID's recent B.Des sample papers don't mention negative marking, and our mocks have none. Always check the instructions on your admit card.
Does the NID Prelims score count in the final result?
NID uses the Prelims to shortlist candidates for the Mains; the Mains (studio test and in-person interaction) decides admission. Check the current admissions handbook for the weightages.
Can I draw in colour in the NID DAT Prelims?
Usually yes, unless a question says pencil only. Our mock questions say which medium to use, as the real paper does.
Is Mock Test 1 really free?
Yes. Fill in a short form and Mock 1 of any series opens straight away, timed and marked like the paid tests. Objective questions are marked instantly, and a TDH mentor reviews up to 2 of your drawing answers. In the full series, every drawing is marked.
Can I get personal guidance on my mock tests?
Yes. Connect with our counsellors to book a one-on-one session with a TDH mentor, for example to go through your answers, your drawings and your plan for the next few weeks. Mentor sessions are paid and booked separately from the mock test series.
What do I get in the full series?
10 full-length mock tests on the latest pattern of your exam, instant scores with section-wise and topic-wise reports, explanations for every objective question, and your drawing answers marked by a TDH mentor with written feedback. ₹799 at launch (MRP ₹999).
How do the drawing questions work online?
Just like the real exam, you draw on paper during the test. When time is up you get 20 extra minutes to photograph your sheets and upload them. A TDH mentor marks them against the criteria in the question and emails you the marks and feedback.
What if my internet drops or the page closes?
Your answers save automatically every few seconds, and the timer runs on our server. Reopen the test on any device and you'll continue where you left off, with the time that's left.
Can I take the tests on a phone?
Yes, the test screen works on phones, but a laptop or tablet is closer to the real computer-based exams. Keep your phone handy to photograph drawing answers.
When are new tests released?
New mocks are added through the season, each one checked by our mentors before release. Your series page shows which tests are open and which are coming next.
How do I open my tests on another device?
Use 'Sign in' on the mock tests page with the email you used to pay. We'll email you a link that signs you in on that device.
